These streets are made for
Snippets heard as I walk from house to library from library to café from café to work from work to Laundromat from Laundromat to bottle shop to home (or similar).
Man at café says: “Yes, well that was the coming of electric light” (definitively, sardonically).
Bike courier says to friend “just a small carton of orange juice, a chocolate bar, beans…” (in indignation at what he just spent in the mini supermarket).
Sharp, small woman says “Georgie fatty, that’s what we call her. Yeah her whole family are bipolar. Terrible show, the whole opera is a nightmare. Anyway, better go” (dismissively).
Librarian says “well they probably weren’t overdue when you rang. That was Tuesday. They do rack up pretty quickly.” (polite, just).
Café man with belly says “there you go sweetie.” (charming, lots of wet teeth).
Girl part of a jog-sweating couple says clearly ‘maybe in six months?’.
